What is Vivah Muhurat?
A vivah muhurat is an auspicious time window selected for a Hindu wedding ceremony. In Vedic astrology, the timing of a marriage is considered as important as the match itself. A good muhurat ensures the planetary positions are favourable for the couple beginning their life together.
Vivah muhurat is determined by examining several factors from the panchanga — the tithi (lunar day), nakshatra (birth star), vara (weekday), yoga, and karana. Beyond these five elements, the muhurat pandit also checks that Rahu Kaal, Yamagandam, and other inauspicious periods do not overlap with the ceremony time.
Key Rules for Vivah Muhurat
Before looking at dates, it helps to understand what makes a date auspicious or inauspicious for marriage:
Auspicious conditions:
- Shukla Paksha (waxing moon fortnight) is preferred
- Nakshatras: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada are considered good for marriage
- Weekdays: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are preferred
- Lagnas: Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Pisces ascendants are considered auspicious
Inauspicious conditions to avoid:
- Amavasya (new moon day)
- Chaturdashi tithi (14th lunar day)
- Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Moola nakshatras
- Periods when Jupiter or Venus is combust (asta)
- Adhika masa (extra leap month in Hindu calendar)
Shubh Vivah Muhurat 2026 — Month by Month
Dates verified against the panchanga. A wedding date is valid only when both Jupiter and Venus are visible (not combust / asta), and outside Chaturmas (Jul 25 – Nov 20), Kharmas / Dhanurmas, and Adhik Maas. 2026 has about 61 vivah muhurat dates — none in January, none from August through mid-November. Weekday is shown in brackets; confirm the exact lagna and your city's timing before finalising.
January 2026 — no dates
Venus is combust (Shukra Tara Asta) through all of January 2026, so there are no vivah muhurats this month.
February 2026
Venus rises again and February is rich with dates:
- Feb 4 (Wed), 5 (Thu), 6 (Fri) — Uttara Phalguni, Hasta

July 2026
A few dates before Chaturmas and the combustion of Jupiter:
- Jul 1 (Wed) — Uttara Ashadha
- Jul 6 (Mon), 7 (Tue) — Uttara Bhadrapada
- Jul 11 (Sat), 12 (Sun) — Rohini, Mrigashira
From about mid-July, Jupiter combust (Guru Tara Asta) and then Chaturmas from July 25 close the season.
August, September and October 2026 — no dates
All three months fall inside Chaturmas (compounded by Jupiter/Venus combustion and prohibited solar months), so there are no vivah muhurats. Weddings do not resume until after Dev Uthani Ekadashi in late November. (Beware of calendars that list September/October wedding dates — those months are entirely within Chaturmas.)
November 2026
Chaturmas ends on Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, November 20, and the wedding season reopens the next day with Tulsi Vivah:
- Nov 21 (Sat) — Revati

From mid-December the Sun enters Sagittarius (Dhanu) and Kharmas pauses weddings again until mid-January 2027.
