How these Namkaran dates are chosen
A date qualifies only when the Moon occupies one of the nakshatras classically prescribed for Namkaran: Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Revati.
Namkaran is a samskara for the child and is not barred by Chaturmas — the day is chosen by nakshatra and vara.
The rikta tithis — Chaturthi, Navami and Chaturdashi — and Amavasya are excluded for every ceremony, as is any date falling in the forbidden nakshatras (Bharani, Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Moola).
The date is the same across India, because nakshatra, vara and solar month are. The hour is not — Rahu Kaal, Bhadra and the choghadiya windows shift with your local sunrise, so check your city's day page before fixing a time.
