How these Mundan dates are chosen
A date qualifies only when the Moon occupies one of the nakshatras classically prescribed for Mundan: Ashwini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Jyeshtha, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Revati.
Mundan is avoided during Kharmas (Sun in Dhanu or Meena).
The rikta tithis — Chaturthi, Navami and Chaturdashi — and Amavasya are excluded for every ceremony, as is any date falling in the forbidden nakshatras (Bharani, Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Moola).
The date is the same across India, because nakshatra, vara and solar month are. The hour is not — Rahu Kaal, Bhadra and the choghadiya windows shift with your local sunrise, so check your city's day page before fixing a time.
